Two hours after the operation began, Việt Cộng forces began to embark from Port Izumi carrying physical drives, sensitive equipment, and captured personnel from both Kusari and Byakko. Controlled demolitions and ground and orbital-based munitions destroyed several structures while fires and secondary explosions around the airfield's fuel storage systems were left to burn.

== Aftermath ==
In the aftermath of the battle, the Kusari Group and Imperial Japanese Navy intercepted several of the attacking craft as they rushed to reinforce the system. However, key assets such as the ''Phan Bội Châu'' and the two landing cruisers, were unable to be found.
