The Rubicon is a subcluster of star systems located at the Spinward edge of the Local Supercluster.

It is situated at the intersection of the Elysian Fields Coreward, Argentine Arm Spinward, Acadian Expanse Trailward, and Sunset Gates Rimward.

The subcluster includes at least five sovereign states: the Colonial Republic of Boreale, Colonial Republic of Kitiya, Federation of Aurelia, Mdina Colonial Republic, and Petrarca Colonial Republic.

The Rubicon is principally comprised of ten primary star systems: Aurelia, Avanti, Boreale, Capriccio, Kitiya, Mdina, Outreach, Petrarca, Sardus, and Vivaldi.

Etymology

From Latin Rubicō, Rubicōn (“the Rubicon”), possibly from rubeus (“red, reddish”), from rubeō (“to be red”), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₁rewdʰ- (“red”), an allusion to the colour of the river caused by mud deposits. Julius Caesar’s crossing of the Rubicon, a small river in northeastern Italy, on 10 January 49 B.C.E., indicated his intention to start a civil war with Pompey.
