The The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, commonly known as the United Kingdom (UK) or Britain, is an interstellar nation situated primarily in the Sea of Clouds. A great power, the United Kingdom is one of the foremost members of the Orion Treaty Organization, as well as a founding member of the League of Nations and the Bank of Orion.
History
The lands of the UK were inhabited continuously since the Neolithic. Settlement by Cro-Magnons of what was to become the United Kingdom occurred in waves beginning by about 30,000 years ago before falling to Roman conquest, beginning in 43 AD, and the 400-year rule of southern Britain, was followed by an invasion by Germanic Anglo-Saxon settlers in the 4th century. In 1066, the Normans conquered England. With the end of the Wars of the Roses the English state stabilised and began to grow in power, resulting by the 16th century in the annexation of Wales, the domination of Scotland, and the establishment of the British Empire. It became the earth's foremost power for the majority of the 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly, it encompassed almost a quarter of the world's landmass and population, and was the largest empire by the 1920s.
