History
Pre-First Scinfaxi War
Evidence of human occupation of the territory which would eventually become Gran Colombia on Earth dates to at least 12,000 BCE. Prior to the arrival of Europeans, the easternmost part of Gran Colombia, Ecuador, was incorporated into the Inca Empire during the 15th century. The Spanish arrived in 1499, and by the mid-16th century, they had colonized much of Gran Colombia, and established the New Kingdom of Granada, with Santa Fe de Bogotá as its capital. Independence from the Spanish Empire is considered to have been declared in 1810, with Gran Colombia emerging as the United Provinces of New Granada. After a brief Spanish reconquest, Colombian independence was secured and the period of Gran Colombia began in 1819. Following the secession of Venezuela and Ecuador in 1830, the new polity experimented with federalism as the Granadine Confederation (1858) and then the United States of Colombia (1863), before becoming a centralized republic -the Republic of Colombia- in 1886. With the backing of the United States and France, Panama seceded from Colombia in 1903, allowing the construction of the Panama Canal to be completed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers between 1904 and 1914.

Main Battle Tank Procurement Program
In 2285, as part of its ongoing modernization program, the Gran Colombian Army started the evaluation process of seven different main battle tanks for acquisition. After six months of evaluation and field trials, the Army finally selected the Reich’s Pz.Kpfw.39, commonly known as Panzer 39, as their future main battle tank. Among the models evaluated were also the Soviet T-640 and the American M8A5.
The existing program has a procurement target of more than 11,000 units over the next decade. To reach this objective, the deal includes direct imports and the local production of the tank under license. To allow this production, the deal also incorporates both the needed upgrades in the factories and the needed technology transfers. The local production is planned to start at the end of the year 2286.
