The Commonwealth of Vega, previously known as Vega, was an interstellar nation located in the Vega Cluster. It was first colonized in 2083 under the League of Nations Mandate for the Vega Colonies, and existed from its independence in 2154 until its partitioning in 2233. Before its partitioning, Vega was the historic center of cultural, economic, and military power in the Local Supercluster, and one of the most powerful and influential extrasolar nations to emerge from the evacuation efforts. It was succeeded by the Democratic Republic of Vega and the Federal Union of Vega.

History

The Early Interstellar Age

When the Vega Planetary System was first colonized in 2083, it became the first extrasolar colony to be founded entirely by nongovernmental interests. Hundreds of millions of refugees would be relocated to Vega over the course of the Evacuation Effort as part of the Sanctuary Worlds Program.

The Modern Dark Age

Following the disruption of Interstellar communications in 2154, the League of Nations Mandate for the Vega Colonies collapsed following prolonged riots and labor strikes, culminating in the establishment the Commonwealth of Vega.

Centennial and the Kisléta Chain Bridge: 2183

To celebrate the centennial of the nation's colonization, the Kisleta Chain Bridge is completed.

The Lyra Campaigns: 2184-2187

In 2184, the Commonwealth of Vega declared war on the Altair Colonial Administration. It was humankind's first interstellar war. Three years later, in 2187, the signing of the Vega Accords brought the conflict to a close.

The Cold War

The First Solar War: 2208-2213

In 2208, the Commonwealth of Vega declared war on the United Centauri Republic, beginning the First Solar War. This conflict would last for five years, resulting in an armistice recognizing Vegan territorial gains and sovereignty.

The Second Solar War: 2229-2231

In 2229, what would become known as the Second Solar War began with an invasion of the Sirius Federation by the Commonwealth of Vega. Joining Vega were the Republic of Vesta, United States of Juno, Silvanus Colonial Republic, Barrosa Colonial Republic, Jarandi Colonial Republic, and Kassar-Antrali Colonial Republic. Joining Sirius were the nascent Solar Treaty Organization members of the United Centauri Republic and United Provinces of Tau Ceti, as well as the Apollo Federation. Although the war initially went in Vega's favor, meeting a high-water mark in 2231 with the destruction of the bulk of the United Centauri Republic fleet in the Battle of Cygnus, the war would be brought to a decisive end that same year by the intervention of the German Reich.

Territories of Vega occupied by the German Reich shortly thereafter, in 2233, split to form the Axis Powers backed Federal Union of Vega. The remainder formed the Republic of Vega (later Democratic Republic of Vega)

The Partition: 2233

Two years after Vega's surrender at the end of the Second Solar War, the systems and territories occupied by the German Reich split to form the Axis-backed Union of Vega. (Later, the Federal Union of Vega.)

In 2254, The New People's Alliance party came to dominate the elections of the Republic of Vega. Shortly thereafter, the first series of diplomatic agreements between the Republic of Vega and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics were signed. The Republic of Vega would become the Democratic Republic of Vega a decade later, following its entry into the Communist Interstellar in 2264 after the end of The First Vega War.
