A sector designated an interstellar defense identification zone (ADIZ) is an area of space in which a nation attempts to identify, locate, and manage starship traffic to protect its national interests. Their boundaries are declared unilaterally and may extend well beyond a country's territory into neighboring systems or beyond. Their implications are not defined by the League of Nations or any international treaty.
