Byblos Spire
The Byblos Spire or the Spire is a 4km tall obsidian-hued obelisk located in the Byblos System of the Calypso Deeps. Although the spire and its surrounding structures are alien in origin, a 23-year long study has concluded that they are not of Scinfaxi origin. The partially flooded alien ruins surrounding the spire itself have been used as makeshift outposts for mercenaries and pirates.
Contemporary Issues
University of New California Xenoarchaeological Research
In 2285, the University of New California announced a pause to its on-site xenoarchaeology research into the Byblos Spire and surrounding alien ruins as a result of concerns regarding heightened pirate activity in the Calypso Deeps. Prior to its cessation, the NCU had administered and staffed a research station with the funding granted by Templin Keppe.
