Nations:

The Calypso Deeps is a cluster of 89 star systems located in the Local Supercluster. The cluster includes 16 colonized systems and contains at least 8 countries. With the notable exception of the Republic of Türkiye, all of the nations of the Calypso Deeps are non-legacy nations.

Astrography

The Calypso Deeps are situated rimward of the Local Cluster, spinward of the Amazonia Cluster and Sea of Clouds, and trailward of the New Canaan Corridor.

Translight Strings

There are a total of 109 charted translight strings connecting the 89 star systems of the Calypso Deeps. 44 of those translight strings are weak and unstable. There are six nexus star systems in the Calypso Deeps, each possessing at least four translight strings converging there: Anansi, Gonzalo, Encruzilhada, Callwood, Menouf, and Sparrow.

Etymology

The Calypso Deeps is named after a nymph from Homer's Odyssey that detained the Odyssey's protagonist, Odysseus, for seven years against his will. Calypso (/kəˈlɪpsoʊ/; Ancient Greek: Καλυψώ, romanized: Kalupsō, lit. 'she who conceals').

History

Pre-Colonization Era

Byblos Civilization

The Byblos Spire is a 4km tall obsidian-hued obelisk located in the Byblos system of the Calypso Deeps. Although the Spire and its surrounding structures are alien in origin, a 23-year long study has concluded that they are not of Scinfaxi origin.

Contemporary Issues

Piracy In The Calypso Deeps

Due to the ongoing threat of piracy in the Calypso Deeps, an estimated 1/3rd of independent captains traveling through the area have outfitted their craft with illegally-obtained armaments and protection systems.
