Mare Nostrum
The Mare Nostrum is a group of 38 star systems located within the Local Supercluster. The cluster includes 17 colonized systems belonging solely to the Italian Social Republic. As a Legacy Nation, it shares strong direct historical, cultural, and linguistic ties to a nation that once existed on Earth.
Etymology
Latin for "Our Sea", Mare Nostrum was a term used by the Ancient Romans to refer to the Tyrrhenian Sea and Mediterranean Sea on Earth. This term would be revived during the Italian nationalist movements of the 19th century, as well as by the Italian fascist movement of the 20th century, to make territorial claims on territories adjoining the Mediterranean Sea - especially those in North Africa.
Astrography
The Mare Nostrum is situated coreward of the Arcturus Subcluster, trailward of the Lyran Veil, rimward of the Tannhauser Gate, and spinward of the Elysian Fields.
Translight Strings
There are a total of 43 charted translight strings connecting the 38 star systems of the Mare Nostrum. The Romulus and Fortezza systems are the cluster's nexus systems, with each having four strings converging on them.
