The name of the Pillars of Hercules is an allusion to a location in Ancient Greek mythology: the furthermost extent of the twelve labors of Hercules, the location beyond which Plato claimed the legendary island of Atlantis could be found, and a metaphor for the end of a journey or the edge of the known world. The name was shared by promontories flanking the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar on Earth. | |||

The Pillars of Hercules is a group of seven star systems located entirely within the Calypso Deeps. The subcluster has no colonized systems nor sovereign states residing within it.
Astrography
The Pillars of Herculues is situated spinward of the Encruzilhada Subcluster and coreward-by-spinward of the Magellan Subcluster.
Translight Strings
There are a total of six charter translight strings connecting the seven star systems of the Pillars of Hercules. Three of the translight strings of The Pillars of Hercules are weak and unstable: those connecting Ithaca - Cyclops - Siren - Scylla.
