The United Centauri Republic, commonly known as Alpha Centauri or Centauri, Is a Non-Legacy Nation, a Great Power, and a Potential Superpower located entirely within the Solar Subcluster. It is the Orion Arm's ninth-most-populous nation. Its sole system, the Alpha Centauri Planetary System, is among the most heavily populated, and industrialized, systems in the entirety of the Orion Arm. It is a member of the modern League of Nations, African Union, the foremost member of the Solar Treaty Organization, and a participant of the Joint Solar Authority.

The United Centauri Republic is one of three Great Powers within the Local Supercluster, along with the Federative Republic of Brazil and the Republic of India. Its role within Orion astropolitics is defined by its strategic position bordering major translight routes, and its emerging status as a major power.

History

The Early Interstellar Age

In 2019, the Centauri Program was established as a joint venture between the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Greater German Reich, and the Atlantic Treaty Organization. After five years, in 2024, the American spacecraft "Chiron" completed the first successful crewed FTL jump - arriving in the Alpha Centauri planetary system. Humanity's first extrasolar colony was established in 2031 on the planet Harmony.

Sanctuary Worlds Program

Developed in 2100, and in operation until 2153, Alpha Centauri was one of the primary Sanctuary Worlds. As a result, it became host to a substantial population of refugees, displaced peoples, and other diaspora communities. Alpha Centauri would remain the largest economy in the Local Supercluster until being surpassed by the Commonwealth of Vega in 2130.

The Cold War

First Solar War

In 2208, the Commonwealth of Vega declared war on the United Centauri Republic, beginning the First Solar War. This conflict would last for five years, resulting in an armistice recognizing Vegan territorial gains and sovereignty.

Second Solar War

In 2229, what would become known as the Second Solar War began with an invasion of the Sirius Federation by the Commonwealth of Vega. Joining Vega were the Republic of Vesta, United States of Juno, Silvanus Colonial Republic, Barrosa Colonial Republic, Jarandi Colonial Republic, and Kassar-Antrali Colonial Republic. Joining Sirius were the nascent Solar Treaty Organization members of the United Centauri Republic and United Provinces of Tau Ceti, as well as the Apollo Federation. Although the war initially went in Vega's favor, meeting a high-water mark in 2231 with the destruction of the bulk of the United Centauri Republic fleet in the Battle of Cygnus, the war would be brought to a decisive end that same year by the intervention of the German Reich.
