The Sunset Gates is a cluster of star systems located on the spinward edge of the Sea of Clouds.
The Sunset Gates is comprised of four subclusters: the Gateway Subcluster, McCrae Test and Training Range, New American Colonies, and Symphony Subcluster.
It is situated directly trailward of the Calypso Deeps.
Etymology
An allusion to the passage from famous poem The New Colossus by Emma Lazarus which was emblazoned on a plaque inside the Statue of Liberty in New York City prior to the evacuation of Earth: "Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand a mighty woman with a torch, whose flame is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles."
Sunset: From Middle English son-sett, Sonne set, equivalent to sun + set.
Gates: From Middle English gate, gat, ȝate, ȝeat, from Old English ġeat (“gate”), from Proto-West Germanic *gat, from Proto-Germanic *gatą (“hole, opening”).
