The Battle of Port Izumi was a military operation by Việt Cộng forces against the Kusari-run Port Izumi Industrial Complex in 2285.
Prelude
Port Izumi was a vital logistical node in the Hirakubo System of the Orinoco Spur and considered an important part of Japan's expansion of influence in the Orinoco Spur. To protect such a vital location, the Kusari Group had set up defenses on the complex comprised of armored vehicles, dropships, aerospace craft, surface anti-starship emplacements, point-defense batteries, and electronic countermeasure. These were operated by Byakko Logistics, an in-house private military company (PMC).
Battle
On the day of the battle, Việt Cộng starships, disguised as regular orbital traffic, cut off their transponders and moved towards the complex with none of the defensive systems on Port Izumi detecting this action. By using forged transponder signals and IJN naval codes, the Việt Cộng fleet successfully bypassed the complex's detection methods and entered Izumi's intermediate engagement zone.
In the Việt Cộng's opening salvo, they managed to effectively cripple Port Izumi's orbital defenses and destroy one of the two Byakko PMC frigates guarding the approach to the complex while damaging the other's engine. It's believed that the Byakko frigate was destroyed by a Soviet-made P-210. At the same time, a Byakko scout destroyer, the largest warship in the system, was destroyed. It's speculated that this was done by the Việt Cộng's "spacefrogs" planting a mine on the warship prior to the start of the operation and detonating it once the raid had commenced.
As the salvo was launched, pre-positioned Việt Cộng special forces across Port Izumi launched hundreds of dronecraft targeting anti-aerospace batteries, anti-orbial batteries, sensor installations, command and control centers, and the homes of prominent Kusari and Byakko personnel in the complex's colonial township. At this time, most alarms across the complex remained silent.
By the time Việt Cộng starships entered the atmosphere, the Kusari Group's orbital stations had been completely pacified, mostly by precision railgun fire. At the same time, a flight of ECM drones was launched on the ground, filling the air with chaff and decoy flares that blinded Port Izumi's fire control AI and saturated its radar systems.
After, two Việt Cộng landing cruisers disembarked the equivalent of a full mechanized regiment directly onto the facility's tarmac. Behind them, supporting gunships and assault craft began to deploy their own forces across the complex, targeting communication hubs and logistics centers. After action reports indicate that the Việt Cộng had been going after Kusari shipping records, interstellar traffic data, and staffing reports.
Within 30 minutes of landing, the Việt Cộng had confined Byakko's remaining ground forces to a small defensive perimeter surrounding the complex's orbital lift, pinning them down with tanks and mechanized infantry. At the same time, the Phan Bội Châu, a captured Manchurian-built heavy cruiser, deployed squadrons of aerospace craft to sweep the skies.
Two hours after the operation began, Việt Cộng forces began to embark from Port Izumi carrying physical drives, sensitive equipment, and captured personnel from both Kusari and Byakko. Controlled demolitions and ground and orbital-based munitions destroyed several structures while fires and secondary explosions around the airfield's fuel storage systems were left to burn.
Aftermath
In the aftermath of the battle, the Kusari Group and Imperial Japanese Navy intercepted several of the attacking craft as they rushed to reinforce the system. However, key assets such as the Phan Bội Châu and the two landing cruisers, were unable to be found.
