The High Republic of Whitehall, commonly known as Whitehall, is a Non-Legacy Nation located in the Buyan Isles. It is a Middle Power and a member of the League of Nations.
Whitehall's economy is significantly stratified, possessing a small "apex" upper class which attains its high level of luxury through the utilization of automation, network intelligence, cybernetics, and low-cost labor. Over 90% of the population of Whitehall are chemically dependent on mood stabilizers, euphorics, or anti-anxiety drugs. Some have described this as a "Sedation Economy".
Amnesty Interstellar places Whitehall's human rights record among the worst in the Orion Arm. Sporadic periods of mass civil unrest on Whitehall have tended to collapse into mass violence subjected to rapid crackdowns. Critics, including several news agencies, have argued that these crackdowns rely on imported technology and munitions from the United States of America - and have called for the imposition of an arms embargo on the High Republic of Whitehall.
