It extends outward with Antequera at  its approximate center, outward to the [[Amazonia Cluster]] on its coreward-by-trailward edge, the [[Local Cluster]] on its coreward, and the [[New Canaan Corridor]] on its spinward. It contains ten constituent subclusters and approximately 23 star systems.

The Calypso Deeps is named after Calypso (/kəˈlɪpsoʊ/; Ancient Greek: Καλυψώ, <small>romanized:</small> ''Kalupsō'', <small>lit. </small>'she who conceals'), a nymph from Greek mythology who lived on the island of Ogygia, where, according to Homer's ''Odyssey'', she detained Odysseus for seven years against his will. She promised Odysseus immortality if he would stay with her, but Odysseus preferred to return home. Eventually, after the intervention of the other gods, Calypso was forced to let Odysseus go.
